The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 46 out of 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly elections, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is ahead in 24 seats. Counting is still underway, and the final results are expected soon. Manish Sisodia is leading, while several senior AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi, are trailing. The election marks a crucial contest as AAP seeks to retain power in the national capital, while BJP aims to return to governance after more than a decade.
Social activist Anna Hazare has criticized Arvind Kejriwal, stating that he had warned him about the importance of integrity in politics. “I have always said that a candidate’s conduct, thoughts, and life should be pure, without blame, and centered on sacrifice. These qualities instill faith in voters. I advised Arvind Kejriwal on these principles, but he did not heed my advice. Instead, he became focused on issues like liquor. Why did this issue even arise? He was overwhelmed by money power,” Hazare said.
Ahead of the elections, Anna Hazare had urged voters to elect candidates with integrity, sacrifice, and commitment to public service. He also advised against voting for individuals who focus on money and power. His statements come as Kejriwal faces criticism over the excise policy controversy, which was a key issue in the election campaign. The BJP had targeted AAP on the liquor policy, while AAP countered with allegations of political vendetta.
The final election results will determine the future leadership of Delhi. If current trends hold, BJP may secure a majority, marking a shift in the state’s political dynamics. Kejriwal continues to lead in his constituency, but setbacks for senior AAP leaders indicate a competitive battle. With counting still in progress, the final outcome is awaited.
